The Shack wasn't a place it was a mindset. For those who don't know the story let me try to explain. In the 90s Bobby Hill (aka Ben) started throwing parties at various locations like Thompson park swimming pool, and different people's houses. He had a big house stereo and a ton of music on compact discs. This is actually what made me start DJing. He has always been like a big brother to me, and he didn't ask me to dj these parties, he forced me. Either way he decided to start throwing the parties at his house which at the time was a little broken down shack on 11th street with a field next to it. Those parties started off small, then became extremely popular. There would literally be hundreds of people that came to party with us at this little shack (which is where the name originated from) From there Ben was able to start throwing parties at an abandoned club that used to be called The Tip Top. It didn't start off as an after hours spot. But the crowd didn't really start coming in till 1 or 1:30 and sometimes we partied till the sun came up. Then that place got shut down for whatever reason but by that time The Shack had already had a loyal following. It went from one abandoned (raggedy) club to another. Until it settled at its most popular spot at the metal oval shaped building on Hughes street (The old Studio 25 building). Every weekend thousands of people would come and party after hours with us for years until ultimately someone torched it. Those days people truly loved to dance to fast and slow music. The hardest gangsters would be out there getting their groove on next to the nerdiest people. It got much bigger than just the black community there were people of all nationalities having a blast. Therefore The Shack Reunion is trying to bring those vibes back for at least one night. No youngsters will be allowed! A night to remember the good old days in which we like to call it SHACK SH*T!! It will be a night to remember I promise.
